Offshore Maintenance Superintendant

Overall Job Purpose

Manage all maintenance activities on the FPSO’s process, utilities, topsides, and engine-room systems in a safe and efficient manner. Ensure compliance with company and statutory standards through the Planned Maintenance System (CMMS), achieving high-quality maintenance, inspection, and reporting standards. Oversee management of shutdowns, isolations, and preventive / corrective tasks. Lead by example in safe plant operation and maintenance while maintaining familiarity with all permit systems, procedures, and emergency protocols.

Core Responsibilities

Ensure safe and effective operation of process, marine, catering, and emergency equipment by managing the offshore Maintenance Department. Enforce the Permit to Work system and MODEC’s Isolation Philosophy, performing site visits and audits as an Area Authority. Oversee maintenance contractors, ensuring safety and FPSO familiarization. Manage inventory of spare parts, consumables, tools, lubricants, and chemicals. Verify materials’ quality and liaise with procurement channels as needed. Communicate equipment issues to OIM, Maintenance Engineer, Operations Engineer, AM Coordinator, and Operation Manager, coordinating vendor support. Administer CMMS tasks, ensuring timely execution and accurate data. Provide technical advice for maintenance strategy and failure analysis. Optimize equipment performance and spare parts usage. Regularly review preventive maintenance routines and collaborate with reliability teams to refine maintenance processes. Lead and motivate the maintenance team, promoting proactive safety and system integrity culture. Oversee spare parts and storeroom management, responding to facility conditions. Assist with OPEX budget planning and execution, raising awareness of cost control within the team. Participate in audits and system reviews, contributing to system improvements. Champion safety and compliance through MODEC’s management systems, coaching staff on HSEQ protocols. Complete daily operations reports related to maintenance. Serve on the Emergency Response Team, participating in training and drills. Conduct annual performance reviews of maintenance personnel. Represent MODEC at internal and external functions as requested. Assume Offshore Installation Manager (OIM) responsibilities when designated, ensuring readiness and compliance with relevant procedures.

HSEQ Requirements and Code of Conduct

Financial and Operational Authority

Operate within the company’s Authorization Matrix, controlling the maintenance budget to ensure facility uptime, integrity, and sufficient spare parts are available onboard or in country.

Work Relationships

Report directly to the Offshore Installation Manager (OIM). Supervise E&I Supervisor, Mechanical Supervisor, Chief Engineer, Equipment Inspector, and Operations Scheduler. Work alongside peers including Production and Marine Superintendents.

Job Challenges and Problem Solving

Manage offshore disciplinary, performance, and competency development issues. Apply sound maintenance engineering judgment to complete engineering tasks and lead teams effectively. Identify and propose improvements to optimize efficiency and integrity. Participate in defect elimination and system-ownership initiatives to enhance offshore-onshore coordination. Demonstrate familiarity with the facility’s systems and reinforce safety permit systems and emergency procedures.

Ensure ongoing competency development during non-operational time given offshore constraints. Foster alignment between offshore and onshore teams despite geographic and operational differences.

Qualifications & Experience

High school diploma required; technical school degree expected; bachelor’s degree in engineering mandatory. Hold technical, supervisory, and regulatory certifications (e.g., Class / Flag, Maintenance Supervisor License). Training must align with MODEC’s Training Matrix. Possess 10–15 years of offshore oil & gas, FPSO, refinery, or petrochemical maintenance experience, including asset integrity, reliability engineering, RBI, corrosion management, pressure systems, CMMS (SAP, AMOS), and emergency / firefighting duties. Authorized mechanical isolating authority and emergency response trained.

Languages & Software
